When an Acorn became a mighty oak

Approach created a media campaign around Acorn’s FastTrack installation service which brought a stairlift into the home of 49-year old Gloucester cancer patient Jayne Edwards when other firms let her down.
Tragically Jayne passed away before using her stairlift, but her husband Neil wanted another family to benefit and asked Acorn to donate the stairlift to cancer hospice Sue Ryder.
Approach worked with Neil and Sue Ryder’s clinical nursing staff to speak out in the media about the role of stairlifts while announcing Acorn’s pledge to rehouse the stairlift on behalf of the grieving family.
In December, Acorn re-installed Jayne’s stairlift in the home of 33-year-old Lucy Moore, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in July. Lucy’s life was transformed by Jayne’s stairlift making her feel “human again” and restored the dignity she’d lost through immobility.
The story was featured in the Daily Express, across Gloucestershire and Yorkshire media, in trade and charity titles and is in the national women’s media in spring.
Acorn company secretary Dave Belmont said: “This has been an excellent example of close co-operation between complementary organisations. Working with the Approach PR team has been Acorn's first venture into strategic PR and I could not recommend them too highly.”
