Unless you’ve spent the last few weeks inside and ignoring all forms of social media, (in which case, why, and HOW have you done that?!), you are most likely aware that the upcoming Royal Wedding has been pretty much unavoidable.

In the run up to the big day, it seems that every brand across the globe has been jumping on the campaign bandwagon, to honour His Royal Highness, Prince Harry getting hitched to actress, Meghan Markle.

Here at Approach, it’s fair to say we enjoy a witty brand campaign, but recently it seems that even the most unrelated products and services have miraculously become inextricably synonymous with this regal occasion.

From easyjet’s competition to find the best Harry and Meghan lookalike, to The Black Farmer limited edition Royal Wedding Sausages, we’ve seen it all.

Here, Niamh Boylan, who’s spent the last couple of weeks on placement with us, explores some of the best…

Morrisons – Royal Wedding Cake

First in the lineup is Morrisons, which has concocted its very own Royal Wedding Cake.

It was officially announced that the couple’s cake will be created by London-based pastry chef, Claire Ptak, with three primary ingredients – lemon, elderflower, and fresh flowers.

Stage directions: [Enter Morrisons]

The supermarket’s classic sponge is comprised of three ten inch layers, cemented together with lemon curd and elderflower whipped cream, decorated with white chocolate curls and… [hold for applause] pink rose petals.

They’ve even used regal lookalikes to advertise the dessert.

This clever campaign means that if you’re sitting down to watch the couple enter holy matrimony this Saturday, you can taste exactly what their guests will be eating on the day – but without the price tag. Whilst it’s rumoured that Harry and Meghan’s cake is worth a few thousand pounds, fear not, Morrison’s Royal Wedding Cake can be purchased in store for just £7. [cue standing ovation]

Bravo.

SodaStream – Royal Auction

Known for its strong environmental values, SodaStream has used the Royal Wedding as an opportunity to tackle plastic pollution.

In a video advertising its ‘royal auction’, SodaStream invites its audience to help ‘free the world from plastic waste’ by participating in an auction to win one of its regal reusable bottles. The beautifully designed collection consists of 5 unique bottles, with caps in the shape of wedding hats, each one inspired by a different hat previously worn by a member of the royal family.

As a finishing touch, sodastream are donating all proceeds to the Surfers Against Sewage Charity, ‘per the Royal Couple’s Request.’ Nicely done.

KFC – Royal bucket

Now you may be wondering what on earth fried chicken has to do with the Royal Wedding (and rightly so) but KFC begs to differ. A spokesperson commented: ‘When we discovered Prince Harry proposed over a roast chicken, we simply had to show our support for the big occasion.’

In ‘support’ of the couple’s union, KFC have launched a limited edition commemorative bucket for the big day. Adorned in white, red, and splashes of gold, the bucket features images of both the British and American flags, complete with a crest which reads ‘We Declare a Regal Day of Celebration, Jubilation… and Fried Chicken.’

Only 50 buckets have been produced and they will be available exclusively from the Windsor restaurant on the day of the wedding – cue the stampedes at opening time on Saturday.

Tyrrell’s Crisps – Royal flavour

Last but not least, we have the ever so English Tyrrell’s Crisps company. If you’re hosting a Royal Wedding gathering this weekend, then Tyrrell’s has got your back. And what better party nibble to accompany your prosecco than a shimmering crisp – yes, that’s right, the limited-edition snack is covered in edible glitter. Introducing the ‘Ginger and Sparkle’ (see what they did there?) parsnip crisps, flavoured with a hint of ginger and touch of honey.

Their ad declares ‘what finer way to celebrate the wonderful Royal union than with a characterful culinary marriage of the most fragrant of spices.’

…and for bonus points – they’re both gluten free and suitable for vegetarians – so everybody can enjoy the festive treat!

Well played Tyrrells, well played.
